Anxiety and depression are common experiences and may exist independently or there may be a fluctuation between the two.
Most people experience anxiety and depression at different points in life and they can be adaptive responses to circumstances. However, if you are unable to get out of bed or paralyzed by fear in these situations, you may be overwhelmed in a problematic way. These moods may also occur at many different times and for different reasons.
Anxiety may manifest as incessant worry, muscle tension, sensations of tightness in the chest, belly or other areas, irritability, edginess, difficulty falling or staying asleep.
Depressive symptoms may include: loss of interest or enjoyment in previously pleasurable activities, feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt, lack of concentration, a sense of heaviness or fogginess, thoughts of suicide, insomnia and/or early waking.
These symptoms may be sending you important information about what is going on internally and externally.
Duration, severity and how they affect your life will influence treatment.
Our therapeutic work with these issues explores thoughts and behaviors that may be contributing to these mood states, as well as looking at long term patterns and underlying issues and developing healthy coping skills.
